JVP-MLC Badminton Tournament

The JVP Manila Local Community (MLC) Badminton Tournament held last February 13, 2005 at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center, Ateneo de Manila University was a smashing success. Thirty-three former volunteers and friends joined the tourney while others came to watch and cheer the players on.

The tournament was divided into three categories: advanced, intermediate, and the beginners. In the advanced level, soon to be married couple in their identical sports outfits, John Alikpala (B13) and Tin Morales (B18) won the championship round over Peachy Zulueta and Jigs Carlos, both from Batch 12. In turn, batchmates Ramil Bugayong and Lyndon Orias (B15) clinched the gold in the Intermediate level. Levy Ang (B13) and his wife, Ellet Ang landed second. The third level included badminton enthusiasts who were beginners. Equally exciting to watch as the two previous levels, the Beginners' level competitions displayed great badminton potential in the making. Kang Sonza (B22) and Gil Donayre (B20) honed their skills throughout the elimination rounds and eventually defeated Ron Calderon (B18) and Lester Bucang (B25) during the final round.

The JVP-MLC Steering Committee would like to thank the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center (http://www.mlscsports.com) through Ms. Milette Bonoan, Ms. Elvie Canlas of Jollibee and Ms. Czarina Patolot of Toby's Sports for sponsoring this event. The tournament was just one of the community building activities planned by the JVP-MLC.
