A Message After the Concert
Dear friends of JVP in the Ateneo community,
There truly is joy in sharing.
"Congratulations on a fabulous, heart-warming celebration!" was the remark of a donor who went to the JVP benefit concert, “ The Joy of Sharing: Songs and Stories of Hope ” last November 13. "I will convince my five-year old son to join JVP," a judge who was also there said. "It was very successful and inspiring," according to some friends from the Society of Jesus Social Apostolate. "That was very inspiring" said some JVP parents. "I went to a very, very good concert last night," the president of Makati Medical Center and Asian Institute of Management narrated to a colleague.
Different people who went to the concert found different parts most memorable and striking. Like, some found Monique Wilson's performance truly outstanding. Others' hearts were won over by Jed Madela. Some found Pipo Lina charming and his talent, noticeable. Many were moved by the JVP video presentation featuring three Jesuit volunteers and how they served during their volunteer year and continue to serve in business, government and in an NGO many years after their volunteer year. Still others were engaged by the speeches including those of a student taught by a Jesuit volunteer in Bukidnon who later became a Jesuit volunteer herself; of a JVP donor; and of a JVP parent. Not a few were touched by the former Jesuit volunteers going up the stage from the audience to sing with the artists " Tayong lahat ay may pananagutan sa isa't isa …," composed by Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ who was helped to the stage by a JVP founder, Jemy See. Jemy (now Hawaii Tourism Representative and Director for Taiwan , Hongkong and Southeast Asia ), flew in from Taiwan , as did Fr. Bill Kreutz, SJ (President of the Ateneo de Zamboanga) from Zamboanga City , to accept the award of appreciation for founding JVP.
Whatever it was that struck a chord, the concert brought home the message that there is hope for our country; that we all have something to contribute to build community and uplift the lives of our brother and sister Filipinos in need. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who supported JVP in this one-of-a-kind benefit concert and memorable celebration of JVP's 25 years of faith-driven volunteer service. The proceeds will help fund our volunteers out in the field.
Let me end where I began in my welcome remarks at the concert: "Sharing does not make less by division but creates more by multiplication." May we share the goodness in each one of us and multiply God's love to break walls of division. May we together work for the rise of our nation by creating more songs and stories of hope.
In Christ,
Jo Maribojoc, Executive Director
