The Nellie C. Delgado Endowment Fund
Nellie C. Delgado, Chairperson of the Ala-Ala Foundation, has donated a P1Million endowment fund to Jesuit Volunteers Philippines. The Nellie C. Delgado Endowment Fund will sponsor a Jesuit Volunteer yearly. The Ala-Ala Foundation or the Jose Antonio Delgado Memorial Foundation Inc., supports research activities and programs which can bring about a positive social impact, assisting individuals and institutions whose mission is to bring about social change, with emphasis on the greatest multiplier effect possible. Mrs. Delgado sees JVP’s program of allowing new generations of idealistic young people to serve under-resourced communities in our country as being in line with the Jose Antonio Delgado Memorial Foundation’s Vision-Mission Goals. She believes that the volunteers’ being “ruined for life” only means hope for the Philippines.
The Ala-Ala Foundation has a long history with JVP. According to Lolita Delgado Fansler, or Tita Lolita, the Executive Director of the Ala-Ala Foundation, three of its five executive directors have children who had been JVPers, including herself. She is the mother of Quint Fansler of Batch 19. Ala-Ala Foundation has been supporting JVP since the 1980s and in 2002 started sponsoring a volunteer per year.
In addition, the Ala-Ala Foundation is also a big supporter of the Mangyan Heritage Center in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, which was started by Quint Fansler. MHC is also a partner institution of JVP and has had Jo-ann, Benay, Divine, and Ikay as volunteers. This year, Tish Agarrado of Batch 28 will be assigned there.
The Jesuit Volunteers Philippines Foundation Inc., and the entire JVP Community would like to express its heartfelt appreciation for the generosity of Mrs. Nellie C. Delgado. We pray that God will continually bless her and her family, especially for her heart-warming faith and assistance for the programs of JVP, which serves as an inspiration for us to continue working for our goals of creating a better future for our country.
